How much does a garden room cost?

Garden room prices vary depending on the size, design, specification and work included. Baseworks, flooring, glazing, electrics, heating, air conditioning, cladding, decking and paving can all affect the final cost.  We can do all of this for you and any other works you require which means you don't have the inconvenience of organising other tradespeople.You can discuss what you want over the phone and we'll give you an initial idea of cost before arranging a free site survey or visit our showroom just off the A1 at Eshott, Northumberland, to see six types and sizes of garden room.

Do you need planning permission for a garden room?

Many garden rooms can be built without planning permission under Permitted Development rights. However, this depends on factors including the building's size, height, position, proximity to boundaries and your property, so the requirements should be checked for your particular project.We have vast experience in the planning rules and will advise you accordingly as part of our free quotation service.

Can you use a garden room all year round?

Yes, provided it has been designed and built for year-round use -  which will not be case with all garden rooms.Our standard garden rooms include PIR insulation and heating, with options such as air conditioning available where required.If your garden room is intended for all year round use we will give you a specification checklist as part of our free quotation service so that you can ensure the room you select is fit for purpose.

Are garden rooms warm in winter?

A properly insulated and heated garden room can be comfortable to use throughout winter. Our specification includes PIR insulation throughout and an electric Wi-Fi heater as standard.If you intend to use your garden room all year round we give you a specification checklist as part of our free quotation service so that you can compare the different products available on the market.

Do garden rooms get hot in summer?

Any highly glazed room can become warmer in direct summer sunlight, especially if the room is South or West facing.Temperature can be managed through the location, design, and ventilation and we can install air conditioning as an option.With summers in general predicted to become warmer air conditioning is the best way to keep your garden room at a comfortable temperature.

How long does it take to build a garden room?

Typically from a few days to around two weeks, depending on size and how your room is built.Base works usually take 1–3 days depending  on the size of the garden room.A factory-built room can be craned into position in one day, while an on-site build typically takes 7–14 days again dependent on the size of the room.If access is available our factory build and craned in option - there is no additional price - means less disruption to your garden and a quicker installation.Flooring, electrics, decking,  paving, plumbing and any other works you require may add to these timescales.

Can you have electricity in a garden room?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our garden rooms include a fully certified electrical installation carried out by our NAPIT-registered electrician. Our standard electrical package includes sockets, internal and external lighting, an armoured cable connection and a fuse board inside the garden room, with additional electrical options available.Note: Ensure that any electrical works are undertaken at the same time as the build and only by a NAPIT registered electrician otherwise you may have unsightly cabling visible, a potential fire and shock hazard, and be without the relevant documentation needed by a solicitor should you sell your property in the future.

Can you get Wi-Fi in a garden room?

Yes. A garden room can have internet connectivity, and high-speed internet provision - where available -  is included within the standard specification. Ethernet cabling is also available as an option where a wired connection is preferred.

Yes. A toilet can be installed in your garden room, and we can take care of all the necessary plumbing work as part of the project. This can be incorporated into the design from the outset, so you don't need to arrange a separate plumber.

What is the best base for a garden room?

Unlike a shed or some log cabins, and especially if you want the room to be used all year round, you cannot site a garden room directly onto grass or paving flags.The Place Studio's standard specification uses a traditional concrete base similar to the type that would be used for a home attached conservatory or extension.This protects the room against damp, improves insulation and heat retention, and facilitates a room that you can use all year round.

How close can a garden room be to a boundary?

The position and height of a garden room in relation to a boundary can affect the planning rules that apply. The company's current guidance states a maximum height of 2.5 metres for a garden room within two metres of a boundary, although the requirements for an individual property should always be checked.

There isn't one universal maximum size that applies to every garden. Permitted Development considers factors including height, position and how much of the land around the original house would be covered by buildings.We can give you advice during our free quotation service.

Can you sleep in a garden room?

Using a garden room as occasional additional overnight space is different from using it as permanent sleeping accommodation ie., as a holiday let or Granny Annexe.A garden room intended for sleeping accommodation can be subject to different planning and Building Regulations requirements, so tell us at the design stage if this is how you intend to use it. We can then advise you on the regulations as part of our free quotation service.

Our guarantee is for 15 years but, unlike wood, our Studio Place composite wall materials, roof options, and uPVC windows and doors will not rot with time.Your garden room should last for 25-40 years of even longer.
